  • About Fresh Karat

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom full of discriminately stylish women struggling to overcome bad hair days. With working and shopping, sunbathing and exercising, their daily rigors caused unruly tresses. But the only available headbands were uncomfortable, uncooperative and unsightly. So two enterprising sisters founded Fresh Karat in early 2006, and launched their signature headwrap line later that year. Designed never to budge or cause discomfort, the headwrap can be worn wide or skinny, at the hairline or away from the face. The sisters hand-pick their fabrics in the L.A. garment district, based on stretch, softness and color. Comprising of 60 different patterns, varying from trendy to classic, the collection includes everything from pink skulls to polka dots, colorful hibiscus to animal prints. Next to the embroidered label, a small silver-plated bee (the Fresh Karat icon) is handsewn on the back. Founded on the premise that people enjoy the experience of purchasing as much as they enjoy the item itself, the sisters incorporated several details to facilitate this. In the stores, testers are displayed on a mahogany stand. Seven different Fresh Karat personalities were created, with corresponding patterns, to offer women the opportunity to indulge in a bit of self-reflection (or fantasy). In addition to narrating these personalities, the Fresh Karat website exhibits many of the patterns and the ways to wear them with its collection of professional product shots. The website has been a strong influence in grabbing the attention of prospective retailers and building the brand by word-of-mouth, receiving several emails a day that praise the unique quality and design of its product. Several celebs have purchased the headwraps, including Denise Richards, Heather Locklear, and Rebecca-Romijn Stamos. Fresh Karat has also been picked up by Henri Bendel, one of the most prestigious stores in the country, after a hugely successful trunk-show held at its Manhattan store in April. Fresh Karat can also be found in Dash, the posh boutique owned by Kim and Khloe Kardashian in Calabasas, CA, and in other exclusive shops throughout the country. The headwraps have made appearances in OK Magazine, People Magazine, Pacific Magazine, and 944 Magazine and have appeared on Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty.
